Information Design FAQ

What is Information Design? Information Design is a program focused on the use of mediating technologies to enhance communication, to tell a better story, whether the story is primarily narrative, marketing, video, audio, interactive, or any combination.

I've never heard of this program. Is it for real? The Information Design program has been approved by the New York State Education Department, and the first class entered in Fall 2003. The program is open to Sage College of Albany students as well as students transferring in from other colleges and universities.

What kinds of classes will I be taking?
The Information Design program is based on an interdisciplinary philosophy that combines the core skills of communications, fine arts, graphic design, computer science and business management. These core skills are provided by faculty in the appropriate discipline, and then integrated under the communications-driven umbrella major of Information Design and developed to meet the needs of employers in a professional, ethical and socially responsible manner.

What kinds of careers will this program prepare me for? Information Design can be fundamental preparation for careers in Advertising, Marketing, Interactive Communications, Web Design, Video, Modern Journalism, Media Production, and more...
