NOTE: All courses carry three hours of credit. The program is designed for students to take 15 credit hours per semester, for a total of 30 credits per year. First Year Outcome Objective: Student will demonstrate mastery of core, fundamental knowledge in the disciplines of art, business management, computer science and communications. The outcome objective and its rationale will be introduced in a communications course taken the first semester of the first year. It will be reinforced in all courses. Process Objective: Student will take fundamental courses in each of the above-mentioned disciplines and those courses required by the institution for General Education and Liberal Arts credit. Assessment Method: All Communications courses will be assessed through portfolio review at the end of each semester. Portfolio content will be adjusted to the specific outcome objectives of a course, but will include examples of student competence in the areas of research, writing, presentation and critical-thinking. Assessment of mastery in other disciplines will be left to the discipline.
Second Year Outcome Objective: Student will demonstrate mastery of core, fundamental knowledge in the disciplines of art, business management, computer science and communications. Third Year Outcome Objective: Student will demonstrate mastery of the communications process using a variety of platforms appropriate to the needs of clients, audiences and society at large. Process Objective: Building on the core competencies attained during the first two years of the program, the student will take courses designed to provide intensive technical training in the softwares and techniques necessary to facilitate communications between/among diverse collections of peoples. Assessment Method: All Communications courses will be assessed through portfolio review at the end of each semester. Portfolio content will be adjusted to the specific outcome objectives of a course, but will include samples of student ability to employ technology as appropriate to facilitate the writing, presentation skills and critical-thinking components of a successful communications event. Assessment of mastery in other disciplines will be left to the discipline.
Fourth Year Outcome Objective: Student will demonstrate mastery of the communications process using a variety of platforms appropriate to the needs of clients, audiences and society at large. Process Objective: Building on core competencies attained in the first two years, technologic competencies attained in the third year, the student will take a variety of advanced, discipline-based and interdisciplinary courses designed to pair the student with "real-world" partners to assess, conceptualize and meet the communications needs of clients. Assessment Method: All courses at this level will be assessed through portfolio review at the end of each semester. Portfolio content will be adjusted to the specific outcome objectives of a course, but will include samples of student's ability to synthesize skills in writing, presentation, technology and critical-thinking as integral parts of the communication process.
