Why should you major in Creative Arts Therapy at Russell Sage?

The Creative Arts Therapy Program at Russell Sage has been thriving for over thirty years. Creative Arts Therapy faculty is actively employed in their area of expertise.

Students are immersed in their art form as well as theoretical and experiential applications of the creative art therapy approaches and psychology. The integration of these diverse thinking processes promotes self growth and a strong sense of community at the same time that students learn to promote healing in others.

Strong preparation for graduate school and employment:

Students enjoy an unusual amount of hands on experience especially in practicum courses and senior internship. This prepares you for further study in art education, social work, counseling, psychology, occupational therapy, and many others, as well as art therapy, music therapy, dance therapy and drama therapy. According to student surveys completed three months following graduation, students have been employed in the field or accepted to graduate school at a rate of 90 to 100%.

At Sage you’ll…

Take courses in visual art, dance, music or theatre; psychology; and Creative Arts in Therapy. Courses involve experiential and theoretical exploration and study.

Do a 90 hour internship as a senior to refine your preferences within the profession.

Work with at-risk children, adolescents, adults, and seniors; people with addictions, emotional, developmental, mental and physical health challenges.
