Dr. Myers is director of the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at Sage Graduate School, and an associate professor in Sage's School of Education. Her membership on the New York State Commissioner of Educations Blue Ribbon Task Force on Leadership informed the design of Sages Doctor of Education Program.

Education Employment

Dr. Myers joined the faculty of Sage Colleges in 2004. She had previously been a member of the faculty in the Educational Administration Department at SUNY New Paltz.

Dr. Myers has twenty six years of experience as an educational leader in Questar III BOCES, a three county board of cooperative educational services in upstate New York. She served as the District Superintendent of that organization from 1995 2001. Her early teaching was as a secondary social studies teacher, first for the Albany City School District and, later, for the Ichabod Crane Central School District.


Awards, Honors & Grants

Dr. Myers is a facilitator for Courage to Teach/Courage to Lead, a program of the National Center for Courage and Renewal. Fro the past six years, she has been facilitating these programs throughout New York State and nationally. Dr. Myers was a recipient of a Fetzer Foundation grant for a national facilitator development program conducted by the Center for Teacher Formation.

Since coming to Sage, Dr. Myers has been the recipient of three grants from the Rainwater Charitable Trust to build a community of support among school leaders who focus their work on the neediest learners. The Capital Area School Development Association and Ulster BOCES have been strong partners in the grant activities. Twelve other similar programs are sponsored nationally.

She is also the recipient of the Cooperative Leadership Award from the National School Development Council and a New York State Council of School Superintendents Appreciation Award for Leadership. Her advocacy for women and minorities in leadership roles has been a consistent thread in her professional career. She has been honored by the Lower Hudson Council of Administrative Women in Education who dedicated the anthology, Womens Voices, to her. The New York State Association for Women in Administration, a statewide organization of which she was founding chair person, named an award for her; it is presented annually to those who have mentored women as leaders. The Capital District Association of Women in Administration presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

She is also the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award presented by The College of Saint Rose. For her efforts to bring performing artists into the schools, the GE Fund, The Arts Center of the Capital Region and the Capital Area School Development Association presented her a recognition award for Exemplary Support for Arts in Education.


Speeches & Presentations

Dr. Myers is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences on topics of leadership, women in leadership, community building, renewal for teachers and educational leaders, and distributed leadership among all roles in learning communities. She works extensively with school boards and school leaders on strategic planning and other district level projects.

With Dr. Jan Hammond, she conducted and presented a report of research into the impact of interim superintendents on school districts at the 2004 annual conference of the American Association of School Administrators. Dr. Myers has been a consultant for the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and has facilitated sessions through the National Center for Courage and Renewal for the Mid Hudson Principals Center and the Capital Region Principals Center. In 2001 she participated with Education Commissioner Richard Mills in a New York Learns, Public Television Broadcast, Leadership and Succession Planning.


Leadership Roles

Dr. Myers is a member, of the editorial board for the National Center for Courage and Renewal, served as a member of the New York State Education Department /Buffalo City School District Task Force Team, the Buffalo Strategy, An Urban Initiative, and participated in a Wellesley college sponsored national task force to acquire foundation funding for the development of new initiatives to support educational leaders across the country.

As a District superintendent, Dr. Myers was a review team leader for the New York State Education Departments Schools Under Registration Review (SURR) Visits to the lowest performing schools in New York City, chaired the District Superintendents School Improvement and Accountability Committee and the Finance, Management and Legislative Committee. She was a member of the District Superintendents Subcommittee: Increasing Appointments of Women & Minorities to Local and District Superintendencies in New York State. She provided leadership for the design of the SUNY New Paltz Transition D certification program to certify non educators as superintendents.

She has also chaired the Commissioners Advisory Council on Equal Opportunity for Women and was a member of the Advisory Council for the Regional Laboratory for Educational Improvement of the Northeast and Islands.


Board and Community Service

Dr. Myers is a member of the Board of Directors for STRIDE Inc, a not for profit agency providing disabled youth with recreational activities and the New York State Association for Women in Administration.

She previously served as a member of the Board of Trustees, Sage Colleges, the Board of Directors, Albany Catholic Diocese Consultation Center, the Policy Board of the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center, the Community Advisory Board, Womens Health Services, and the Strategic Planning Committee for Albany Diocesan Schools, and the Executive Committee, Capital Area School Development Association.

As a strong proponent of the arts, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Capital Repertory Company and was the Rensselaer County representative to the Capital District Arts Decentralization Panel.

She volunteers as a presenter and consultant for programs with cancer patients and their families.


National Certifications

Dr. Myers is a national facilitator for Courage to Teach, Courage to Lead, and the National Center for Courage and Renewal. She is a facilitator of Seven Habits of Highly Effective People trained by the Franklin Covey Leadership Institute and is a facilitator in Strategic Planning trained by Cambridge Management Inc.
