Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership
Preparing Visionary School Leaders
The Doctor of Education program is designed to develop visionary educational leaders and prepare them for positions of leadership in school districts and educational coordination and policymaking at local, regional and statewide levels.
The program will prepare reflective and ethical practitioners who create learning communities in which all children experience a sense of belonging, discover the excitement of learning, and demonstrate achievement individually and collaboratively.
The need
Today's school environments have become more complex and diverse, and education reform has created an urgent need for a strong emphasis on development of instructional leadership skills to promote good teaching and high level learning, according to a report by the New York State Board of Regents and the New York State Education Department.
According to the report, research shows that the leadership skills needed today are different from in the past, and preparation programs must adapt in order to better train people for leadership positions.
The response
The doctoral program at Sage is designed to prepare educators to be visionary, creative, ethical and accountable leaders who will set and achieve high educational standards for their schools and districts.
The program was developed by Sage faculty in the School of Education in collaboration with an advisory committee of area superintendents and principals.
