Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor in Training
Sage's Counseling & Community Psychology program has been approved by NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) to offer training meeting the Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor in Training (CASAC-T) requirements.
This is an important credential that opens doors for counselors wishing to work in the field of alcohol and substance abuse treatment. Students and graduates with the CASAC-T will have an easier time getting internships and jobs in the field. In order to be eligible for the CASAC, students will need to meet the educational requirements (CASAC-T); need to pass a statewide exam, and need 6000 hours of work experience in the field. However, a master's degree substitutes for 4000 of the required 6000 hours. Students completing internships and practica in the field of substance abuse can complete an additional 600-700 hours of the remaining 2000 hours.
