DNS in Nursing Education and Leadership

The Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) program at Sage prepares expert nurses to be innovative, transformational educators and leaders in both academic and health care settings.

Graduates of the Doctor of Nursing Science program will:

  • Assume faculty and leadership positions in academic and health care settings
  • Advance education, research and scholarship in academic and health care settings
  • Influence policy, legislation and the public about issues in nursing and health care

Students in the Doctor of Nursing Science program:

  • Come from all over the Northeast
  • Take 6-7 credits each semester for three years
  • Attend classes on campus only three weekends per semester
  • Participate in additional coursework online

A Community of Learning

The Doctor of Nursing Science program provides a foundation for scholarly dialogue between academic and organization leaders. These leaders then collaborate in shaping nursing practice, curricula, policy, and patient outcomes.

The program is cohort-based; each fall, a cohort of expert nurses (who already have master's degrees) are admitted and advance through the program together. This approach to learning supports the development of a community of learning and dialogic education.
