B.S. in Social Studies or History/Education Major

Students interested in teaching careers, grades 7 through 12, must comply with the Social Studies requirements, as well as complete 39 credits in Education, Psychology, and foreign language. Such students will be eligible for certification at graduation and passing of the New York State examinations for licensure or certification. (See Education.) Social Studies/Secondary Education:
  • Six courses in History including HIS 105 and 106 (18 )
  • Two courses each in Economics, Political Science, and Sociology (18)
  • Education, Psychology, and language courses (42)
History/Secondary Education:
  • Six courses in History at the 100-level, at least one from each of the four groups (18)
  • Three electives in History at or above the 200-level (9)
  • HIS 401 Seminar (in the final semester) (3)
  • Two support courses from other disciplines offering history of the field (6)
  • Education, Psychology, and language courses (42)

Elementary Education/History Major:
