BS in Social Studies
The Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies through Sage After Work, welcomes students who want to learn about the mysteries of the human condition and gain a better understanding of social structures and social processes. You will develop an appreciation of the practice of politics, about societies in other parts of the world, and will come to appreciate that the past is prologue and deepens our understanding of the human condition.
A major in social studies requires a commitment to disciplined learning, intellectual integrity, and curiosity about the human condition. You will study a common core of social science courses and three tracks in international studies, sociology and United States history/politics.

The Social Studies major is intended for:
- Students who have found life enrichment in the study of the social sciences/humanities.
- Adult learners who wish to pursue careers in teaching social studies and are following a content area bachelor's degree prior to completing a master of education degree.
- Adult learners who are looking for a flexible major which will build on their earlier academic experience to complete a bachelor's degree in a reasonable time frame.
- College age students with an associate degree wishing to complete a bachelor's program at on a part-time basis.
The major consists of 36 credits. An eighteen-credit core provides the foundation in the social sciences/humanities and basic analytical tools. Each of the tracks consists of fifteen credits and a three credit culmination course (senior seminar or project). The remaining credits in the degree are electives or can be used to complete SCA general education requirements. A total of 120 credits are required for a Bachelor of Science degree and students with an Associate degree or sixty transfer credits will complete the sixty credit Social Studies degree. Obviously, students with less than sixty credits admitted to SCA will have to complete additional work to meet 120 credits requirement for graduation.
