Sage Professors Discuss Childhood Obesity on WNYT's Weekend Today

Several faculty members at The Sage Colleges along with a representative from the Guilderland YMCA were invited to appear on two consecutive Saturdays on WNYT NewsChannel 13's weekend morning news program, Weekend Today, to discuss childhood obesity and to offer tips on healthy lifestyles.

The first segment aired on NewsChannel 13's Weekend Today on August 21 and featured Kimberly A. Fredericks, Ph.D. assistant professor and Chair of Graduate Programs, School of Management at The Sage Colleges. Also featured was Neeti Pathare, Ph.D., PT, assistant professor, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, The School of Health Sciences at The Sage Colleges. Weekend news anchor/reporter Dan Bazile interviewed these Sage faculty members on a variety of topics dealing with the ways in which schools and families can collectively create strategies to reduce childhood obesity.

In the second of this two-part series, Sonya Irish Hauser, Ph.D., assistant professor of nutrition at The Sage Colleges and Linda Crowley, MS RD CDN, dietitian nutritionist at the Guilderland YMCA, appeared on Saturday, August 28 to offer suggestions on simple tips that can make a big difference in preventing childhood obesity.

Childhood obesity is one of the most significant health issues facing our country. Childhood obesity not only has a major impact on our children's lifestyles, it literally threatens their very lives and the impacts the future of health care in this county. Sage is presently involved in a significant research project involving childhood obesity, and the impact on families and our health care system.
