Social Action Day
Social Action Day originated three years ago when the Management and Social Responsibility course was first offered to business students. Students were learning about the issues--human rights, environment, labor, ethics, community, diversity and policy compliance--and started to feel as if they couldn't make a difference or able to change what was happening. The issues that really shook students up were sweatshop labor, poverty, and the damage multinational corporations and people in general were doing to the environment.
We all began to brainstorm ways to "get the word out" and educate students and our community on these issues. Students decided to design a Social Action Day where they could present information in an interactive way so students could LEARN, EXPERIENCE AND TAKE ACTION. The original idea came from the students and we have continued this tradition since 2002.
Students demonstrate their "Love My Body" project at Social Action Day on November 10, 2005.

Social Action Day 2004
On the 20th of November
On a cold and dreary day
An event took place in Buchman
It was called Social Action Day
People came from far and near
Walking through the cold and wind
They came to see and to hear
The facts they found made them cringe
Action was taken and letters were written
Coca Cola bashed
And the facts, they did sicken
The major steps of Management
Took place in that pavilion
(Organizing, Leading, Controlling and Planning)
Companies were exposed
We found the real villains
The groups, there were five
Set up their stations
They explained why
Companies should take socially responsible actions
Days in advance
They had planned out their presentations
Making sure included all important information
They searched on the net
They made games and food
To attract the attention
The People who might be shy or rude
CONCLUSION TO DRAW:
All in All I must say
That I had lots of fun that day
We learned and we taught
Plans of actions were sought
For once made aware
The people who care
Want to change what they see
Instead of letting things be
Be aware of the ways
That companies play
That's what I learned on Social Action Day
