Math + Computer Sciences

MAIN MCS

Mathematics and Computer Science are becoming more and more important to the workforce as the levels of technology increase in all fields. The ability to easily grasp complex concepts has always been in high demand in the workforce, but never before has the necessity for individuals with this skill been more evident than it is now.

The Department of Math & Computing Sciences at the Sage Colleges consists of three distinct colleges: Russell Sage College for Women (RSC), Sage College of Albany (SCA) and Sage Graduate School (SGS). These schools with campuses in Troy and Albany, New York are connected through a commitment to superior teaching and service to students. It is our goal to educate individuals and to nurture talent in order to create well rounded, competent, and competitive members of the global society.

Mathematics Programs Russell Sage College Troy, NY

The mathematics programs at RSC provide women with the knowledge and skills necessary to be competitive in our highly technological society or to attend graduate school. With the aide of technology, the mathematics curriculum incorporates collaborative and exploratory learning. This pro

cess allows small groups of students to collectively solve open-ended problems and has been shown to decrease anxiety and increase learning. It also provides students with a first hand experience at working as part of a team, a skill which is very much in demand in today's workforce.

The five-year Mathematics/Engineering program is governed by an articulation agreement that Sage has with RPI. Students in this program receive two baccalaureate degrees: a BA in mathematics from RSC and

a BS in Engineering from RPI.

Computer Science Programs Sage College of Albany Albany, NY

The Computer Science programs at SCA are designed to ensure that our graduates are prepared for the future of computing technology. A solid knowledge base is necessary for individuals to be able to adapt to new technologies and global trends, and our goal is to supply that knowledge. Our system of programs is oriented toward hands-on computing in small classrooms and is constantly evolving with the changes in the field.

There are two kinds of two-year programs, the AS and the AAS. The AS degree is geared toward transfer into appropriate baccalaureate programs, although it is more than adequate as a terminal degree. The AAS program is designed primarily as a terminal degree, preparing the graduate for immediate employment. Transfer into baccalaureate programs is possible.
