Student Testimonials

Katie Tracy-- Class of 2006/2008 Biopsy/PT
I chose Sage because it was small and not too far from home. Also, I got a scholarship that helped financially. I liked the fact that the faculty to student ratio was small enough that I would not feel like a "number" like kids at other colleges do. I chose the PT program here because I had heard great things about the faculty and the program itself. A woman I shadowed in high school graduated from Sage and was a physical therapist and only had nice things to say. It also was a definite asset that the program was going to try and become a DPT. Another thing I liked about the PT program is that once I applied I was in for good as long as I maintained a certain GPA. Other schools I looked at you had to re-apply after a certain year to be admitted into the program. I have nothing negative to say about the staff and Physical therapy program thus far in my college career.

Katie Peltze-- Class of 2006/2008 Bio/PT
I chose Sage for the PT program for the fact that I received a really good scholarship and it had a small student/ faculty ratio. I came for the PT open house my junior year of high school and I really enjoyed the PT staff and students that I met. Everybody seemed to be very personable. They were very willing to answer any questions or concerns that I had and I got the feeling I would be viewed as a student not just a number. I was also pleased with the aspect that I did not have to reapply for the PT program as long as I maintained the 3.0 average in my science classes I'm in:-). Also the fact that they were considering turning the program into a doctorate program helped a great deal in my decision making.

Angelo Zuppa
My name is Angelo Zuppa, I am 23 years old and I am from Scotia, NY. I'm a first generation college student that graduated from SUNY Brockport in August of 2001 with a bachelor of science degree. While at Brockport I majored in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Physiology. During the 2001-2002 school year I was a part-time student at Sage taking prerequisite courses, working part-time at Capital Cardiology Associates as a cardiac technician, and working part-time as a shift manager at a pizzeria. In the spring semester of 2002 I was accepted to the Sage Physical Therapy program and was fully enrolled into the program in the fall of 2002. So far my experience here can be explained in two words, insightful and intense.

Meredith Roberts
My name is Meredith Roberts and I am a fourth year student in Sage's physical therapy program. I grew up in Averill Park, a small town outside of Troy. I decided I wanted to go to Sage at the end of my junior year of high school. I was impressed with the physical therapy program's reputation. Upon visiting the school I truly felt welcomed and at home. All of the students were extremely nice and helpful. The classes were small and the relationship between the students and faculty was on a more personal level. The teachers actually cared. That was when I knew I wanted to be a part of what was going on at Sage. It seemed like there were great things happening here and I wanted to be a part of them. As an undergraduate student I worked on a degree in biology. Through these years I maintained my job at a small supermarket near my home. As well, I have been able to keep my weekly dinner dates with my grandfather. This year I have started work on my master's degree in physical therapy. So far it feels great to be learning the material that we will be using as physical therapists. I have really enjoyed the community sponsored events that the students and faculty complete together, as well. Last month we went to the Troy Senior Citizen Center and held a blood pressure clinic and performed balancing testing. We had a great time and helped a few people out in the process. The faculty have been great to us, as well. They treat us with respect and listen to our concerns. It is nice to be able to develop a relationship with your professors rather that just being a number in a class room. The semester is rapidly coming to a close and I look forward to my upcoming years here at Sage.

Kristin Fonda
I graduated as a Physical Therapist Assistant from Maria College in May 2003. I am a single mother of a 4 year old son, Tyler. I chose Sage because it is a small school. You get to know your classmates and teachers well, which is a great thing in a P.T. school. Also the faculty are very knowledgeable in their field of practice and they share this knowledge with their students. The P.T. faculty are very easy to talk to and they are willing to help their students in any way that they can.

Andrea Hurin - Undergraduate major: Biopsychology
Why I chose Sage… Sage was the first, last and only school I toured and applied under early decision. I knew right away this was the best road for me to travel when I came for an orientation and met the Physical Therapy professional staff and other members of the Sage community. Here at Sage I am close enough to home, but far enough away for to maintain independence and my own life on campus. I was offered an excellent scholarship to attend, and decided that a school that doesn't look at you as though you are just a number is a priority in my educational career. I know the quality of students and job offers that Sage graduates receive are among the best around. What I like about the PT program so far… I like the challenge the PT program puts forth for me; if you can do well in this program you can do well in anything. The program has been well organized so much of the material learned in classes overlaps, so students are able to pull together and make sense of ideas that may seem abstract. What I like about the PT faculty so far… This faculty has proved again and again that they will go the extra mile in order to make all of the students in the program successful. Everyone has been extremely approachable and accommodating in terms of student concerns and opinions, and genuinely enjoy presenting what they know to future PT's. I am excited to be a part of this program and know my class and professional staff will work together to promote Physical Therapy as a profession in the health care field

Patient Testimonials

The following letter was written by a patient who was treated by a student physical therapist from Sage and sent to the P.T. Department on 10/24/2002. Dear People:
Alison Hyer I am a 63 year old woman. During the past 5-6 weeks that I have been a patient at Columbia Physical Therapy in East Greenbush, Alison has been my therapist. I had sprained my ankle in May 2001. At that time, after only a few sessions of physical therapy, my husband and I resumed our RV lifestyle, leaving the Albany area and traveling to Canada, then onto the West Coast of the U.S. Despite constant pain, I continued to walk, hike and visit tourist attractions. When I finally returned to Columbia Physical Therapy recently, Alison had to treat not only the sprained ankle, but the damage subsequently caused on both feet, knees and hips as well as my discouragement at ever being pain-free. Alison was very professional, yet she managed to be gentle and caring. While leading me through therapy she was motivating and encouraging, causing me to increase the amount of work I did at home. She never seemed to push me, yet she achieved amazing results in a short amount of time. Within the first weeks I became aware that, for the first time since my accident, I could depress the clutch on the car without pain. Another week and I could walk without my walking stick and with only a small limp. I still have pain, and my foot still swells by the end of a workout. I am scheduled for additional therapy, and I will continue as long as my doctor and the insurance company allow. However, I am thrilled with the progress that Alison has enabled, that I had to take the time to let you know about it. I believe that she has a bright future ahead of her in her chosen field. Sincerely,
Sandra (Sandy)
