Faculty | Virginia Ryan
Virginia Ryan is Associate Professor of Psychology at The Sage Colleges, where she has taught since 1985. She teaches abnormal psychology, social psychology, introductory psychology, health psychology and occasionally other courses. She earlier taught as an adjunct instructor in the Sage Evening College Corrections Program (1982-1985). She has also served as Human Development Workshop Coordinator for the Upper Hudson Library Federation Project (1985-1992); and as a Group Therapist and Trainer for the Mount McGregor Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program (1984-1985). At Sage, she planned and developed a curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse student population, ages 17 to 70, who are involved in full- and part-time study towards Bachelor and Associate degrees. She teaches courses in many areas:
- Introduction to Psychology
- Human Development
- Organizational Psychology
- Adolescence and Adulthood
- Child Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology
- Social Psychology
- Health Psychology
- Problems of the Alcohol Dependent Person
Professor Ryan has been a faculty leader, coordinating the following college wide initiatives:
- Chair, Sage Evening College Faculty
- Researched and Designed a Faculty Development Model
- Evaluated and Implemented Tenure and Promotion Policy
- Participated in President's Leadership Council
- Initiated and Coordinated Campus Health Awareness Program
- Co-ordinate Albany Campus Psychology Program
She has specialized in training and education for alternative populations consisting of prison inmates, drug and alcohol dependent individuals and returning adult students. She is experienced in working with the latest computer technology including: word processing, e-mail, internet, SPSS, and incorporating multi-media for use in the classroom. Off campus, Professor Ryan is involved in many community service activities:

Professor Ryan is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology. She is interested in bicycling, tennis, computers, sailing, aerobics, bridge and international travel.
