Department of Chemistry & Physics

Events

The department hosts the VanDervoort Lecture, established in memory of former faculty member and department chairperson Grace I. VanDervoort, which brings a prominent chemist or biochemist to Russell Sage College for lectures and seminars. The most recent recipient of the lectureship was Dr. Joanna Fowler of Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Other public special events are arranged on a variety of topics. For example, Wayne E. Jones, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Chemistry at SUNY-Binghamton, gave a talk entitled "How Small Can You Go? Molecular Wires and Devices in the Modern World" on March 31, 2006.

The department hosted "Forensics Career Day" at Russell Sage College on March 24, 2006. Over 70 young women from upstate New York high schools (sophomores, juniors and seniors, nominated by their teachers and counselors because of their strong science interest and background) and their chaperones attended.
