Department of Chemistry & Physics

Sage has just been awarded two grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF).  One from the Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) program to offer scholarships and enhanced support services to qualified students.  The other from the Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program will enhance the connection between INVEST and the RSC curriculum.   Read more.

Laboratory and Teaching Facilities

Our Sciences teaching and research facilities are well-equipped. The Albany campus programs (Sage College of Albany) utilize computerized lab facilities made possible through grants from the National Science Foundation. At the recently-renovated facility on the Troy Campus, Russell Sage College undergraduates have access to modern equipment.

New equipment to support the RSC Forensic Science program was just added during the summer of 2002, including FTIR, AA, and GC-MS.

With the recent opening of INVEST (Incubator for Nanotechnology Ventures, Emerging Sciences, and Technologies) on the Troy campus, our students are exploring the exciting connections between science, business and entrepreneurship as they interact with real world nanotech pioneers-- doing their work right next door to where students take classes.

During the summer of 2007, the physical connection between the third floor of Science Hall and the incubator facility was completed, along with the relocation and renovation of the instrumental analysis and biochemistry labs.  The new labs are up and running!

For access to resources through The Sage Libraries, with many full text articles available to those with Sage accounts, check out the The Sage Libraries resources.

Many upper-class students participate in summer research experiences for undergraduates (R.E.U.), some in foreign countries. Others participate in internships and projects off campus at local institutions such as Evident Technologies, the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center Laboratories, Albany Medical College, The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, General Electric Corporation, the New York State Police Forensic Investigations Center, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
