Summer Programs for Youth

Summer is an exciting time to be at Sage. Innovation and enthusiasm are are the core of our summer programs. We invite middle and high school students to join us for one of three exciting enrichment programs designed to let you explore your interests, discover new fields, and make new friends. The hands-on opportunities at Summer at Sage will encourage enthusiasm, enliven learning, and foster success.
High School Art & Design Program: Grades 9-12
Sage Career Quest: Grades 7 -10
Summer College for Kids: Grades 4 -8
Summer Art Courses for College Credit
High school students in 11th and 12th grades can apply to take art courses for college credit through Sage College of Albany during the summer. Each course is 3 credits. There is an additional charge of $150 for each course taken for credit.
Portfolio Preparation
Full Day Workshop: 9 am - 4 pm, August 4-8
This one-week portfolio preparation class is designed to give students the competitive edge they need when applying to art colleges. Taught by Jean Dahlgren, program coordinator for Graphic Design at Sage College of Albany, the course will teach students how to create a winning portfolio designed to impress both college admissions offices and art department faculty. Visiting artists will speak to students about what should be in portfolios in the morning. Afternoons will consist of critiques of student work and demonstrations of proper techniques for matting, repairing and completing artwork.
Cost: $225 - includes lunch and supplies

AP Art History Preparation Course
Half Day Workshop: 9 am - 12 pm
This week-long course will help prepare high school students who are planning to enroll in AP Art History at their high school. AP Art History can be intimidating to students who feel they don’t have the background to take such a demanding course. This course will provide students with a general overview of the course content. Instructor Greg Reilly is a veteran of teaching high school AP Art History and he will share his insights on studying, slide identification, oral and written critiques as well as test preparation and test taking.

Cinematography
This course will introduce students to the world of filmmaking through hands on experience and the study of great films. Students will work with digital cameras and Adobe Creative Suite software to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking. They will get hands-on experience in directing, writing, editing, acting, cinematography, and production. Students will work in small groups to make their films, giving them the opportunity to fulfill each of the basic crew positions as well as write, direct and edit their own short film. Students will also watch and discuss great films to better understand the history of film. This course will focus on creating portfolio quality work for high school students who are considering applying to art school.
