Professor Sean Hovendick included in NYC's Conflux Art Festival

September 25th, 2009

As part of the citywide Conflux Art Festival, and the on-going project "undetermined measurements," artists working under the pseudonym AREA (Sean Hovendick and John Wesley Mannion) will conduct interventionist performances utilizing volunteers dressed in stark white "clean suits" exploring urban space.

Investigating public spaces such as Central Park, Union Square and Battery Park, the enigmatic human figures will express the ever-changing perception that the United States has transformed from a unique symbol of freedom to a more fragile and fearful representation of uncertainty.

Sponsored by New York University, the Conflux Festival includes over 100 artists who will combine art and technology with experimentation utilizing urban public space as a canvas. Conflux workshops, performances, interactive installations will begin Friday, September 18th and run through Sunday, September 20th.
