HEOP Student First Year Experience

It begins with The HEOP Pre-Freshman Summer Leadership Institute and continues with The HEOP First Year Seminar.

All incoming first year students must attend the HEOP Pre-Freshman Summer Leadership Institute that usually begins about mid-July, lasts for about three weeks and includes the Colleges' Orientation for all new RSC freshmen students. Students live on campus while participating in workshops focused on empowerment, leadership and building community. Students receive instruction and/or assessments in College Writing, Research, Quantitative skills, Science, Library, Wellness, and Study Skills. They also attend cultural and social activities sponsored by RSC and other area colleges. The College and the New York State Education Department cover summer tuition, room, board, and other costs.

During the academic year all HEOP Freshmen enroll in the First Year Seminar to further their transition to college life by covering topics such as study skills, academic advising, managing money, self in society, relationships, time management, and more.
