SAGEARTS and STUDENT SAGE LIAISONS
The Sagearts award is presented to high school juniors who demonstrate outstanding artistic talent, academic success and leadership skills. The Student Sage Award is given high school juniors who embody the Russell Sage College motto: To Be, To Know, To Do. These awards translate into significant scholarship support at Sage College of Albany and Russell Sage College respectfully. Nominating information is distributed to more than 3000 high schools administrators in the northeast and the award recipients are chosen from their submissions.
Alumnae/i are invited to serve as Sage liaisons by presenting the Sagearts and Student Sage awards to the recipients in their local schools. [Schools often host formal awards ceremonies at which the certificate and pin are presented but at times a more private presentation has been arranged.
Maintaining Contact with the Student
As a liaison, you have a unique opportunity to develop and maintain contact with the award winner. It is expected that s/he will enjoy speaking with someone in the community who can provide personal insight and information about the College.
Maintaining Contact with the High School
In addition to encouraging the high school to nominate a junior for these awards, liaisons are in a position to educate guidance counselors and staff about the Sage Colleges and provide additional materials for their students (see high school visits).
Sharing Your Experience with the Office of Admission
An important part of your role as a liaison is sharing the insights you have gained about the nominees with the Office of Admission. The knowledge and opinions alumnae/i share based on connections to the students and the high school staff become a significant component of Sage outreach.
