Chair's Welcome
The Creative and Performing Arts Department is distinctive in its approach to professional training for students seriously interested in any of the many careers available in Musical Theatre and Theatre. Training in a college setting shared with a resident, professional children's theater educational program presents an unparalleled combination of teaching professionals and diverse performance and production opportunities.
The Sage Theatre Program's vision of collaborative work is put into practice with the symbiotic relationship between the department and the Theatre Institute at Sage. This relationship provides theatre students the opportunity to observe and interact with working theatre professionals on a daily basis. The spectrum of theatrical experience for students provided by the program includes co-productions with the Theatre Institute at Sage, internships with such professional companies as Capital Repertory Theatre, Proctors Theatre and Park Playhouse, faculty-directed main stage and laboratory productions, student-directed shows, and senior projects. Productions encompass ideas and characters from different times and places, presented through the collaborative efforts of many, and promote understanding of the common humanity shared by different peoples and cultures.
Theatre and the Sage Experience
Our bachelor degree programs Musical Theatre and Theatre offer unique educational experiences while supporting strong development of skills for those who wish to explore the world of professional theater in a setting that combines rigorous training with a traditional liberal arts education. A combination of classroom practice and experiential learning opportunities through productions and special projects provides an excellent environment for learning. Weekly performance class provides a forum for student work, guest lectures, and an insight to productions.
The Musical Theatre and Theatre Programs are committed to a learning environment that builds on a rich past as it enters a new era, encouraging excellence, imagination, artistry, and leadership to empower our students to create the theater of the future. We encourage you to explore our programs of study and schedule an on-campus visit.
