Theatre Honors Weekend 2016
The Department of Arts and Letters is looking for young women or men (junior or senior) who are looking to pursue theatre as a career. The ideal candidate is:
- a social leader,
- a powerful communicator,
- involved in the school theatre community,
- and someone who serves and inspires others.
Academically, this student should maintain a B+ average or better and rank in the top 25% of the class.
Historic Russell Sage College has in-residence the Theatre Institute at Sage (TIS) which offers a unique opportunity for our theatre majors to study with professionals. Our Theatre Honors Weekend will include workshops taught by our college faculty and TIS actors/teachers in:
- musical theatre,
- audition techniques,
- devised theatre,
- and stage combat.
This exciting intensive will be held January 15, 16, and 17, 2016 at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York.
Starting on Friday afternoon, there will be an introductory session where nominees will meet the faculty and student hosts. All students will be expected to attend with a prepared musical theatre song and monologue piece. It is expected that the song be from standard musical theatre literature and the monologue should be from 20th/21st century theatre literature and no more than 2 minutes in length. The weekend will include group and individual workshop sessions culminating in a showcase performance on Sunday afternoon. Seminar costs, room and board are provided.
All nominations are due by January 4, 2016. Students selected for the nomination will be announced by January 6, 2016.
