"Champions of Character" Awards

Each year the Academy presents awards to exemplary leaders in Character Education. Award categories include:

  • Community/Civic Leader and Community/Civic Organization
  • Business Organization and Business Leader
  • Parent Leader and Parent Organization
  • Teacher Leader
  • School Administrator
  • Exemplary Schools/School Districts*
  • Student Leader and Student Organization
  • The Sage Colleges Student and Sage Colleges Faculty/Staff Leaders

This year's Champions of Character Awards Banquet will be held on March 18, 2009. The deadline for receipt of the 2009 Award Nominations is January 8, 2009. See below for NYSSOC application deadline.

New York State School of Character Awards (NYSSOC)

These prestigious awards are presently jointly by The Academy and the national Character Education Partnership. They will be presented at the March 18, 2009 Awards Banquet. The deadline for receipt of the detailed application booklet is December 8, 2008. Academy advisors are available to provide assistance in completing this application process.

The Academy for Character Education at the Sage Colleges is accepting applications from public and private schools and districts throughout the state of New York for the State Schools of Character Awards Program. State winner(s) will advance to compete at in the National Schools of Character (NSOC) Awards Program.

Student Media "Character Matters" Competition

The Academy and Lamar Advertising are sponsoring the Annual Student Media "Character Matters" Competition. The winning entry is used as the basis for the Academy's media campaign that year.

"Champions of Character Awards Banquet

Each year, The Academy for Character Education at The Sage Colleges hosts the "Champions of Character" Awards Banquet at the Franklin Plaza in Troy. The 2009 event will take place on March 18.

The event begins with a reception, followed by dinner, awards presentations and short presentations by a selected number of award recipients (especially the NYSSOC winners).

An invitation and response card will be available in early 2009

The Academy is currently accepting donations for the Silent Auction and members of the Honorary Committee
