Commencement Letter to Students


The Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Under The Sage Colleges' academic policies, all students must have completed all degree requirements in order to participate in Commencement ceremonies. Candidates who have completed degree requirements at an earlier date may participate in the May ceremony. The Registrar's office will mail diplomas to all candidates by the end of June. IN EITHER CASE, BE SURE TO COMPLETE THE COMMENCEMENT RESPONSE CARD AND MAIL IT TO THE OFFICE OF STUDENT LIFE ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2015. Individuals who have not responded by Friday, April 24, 2015 will be removed from the Commencement Participation list.

Commencement Ceremony

LINE UP: 9:00 a.m.
TIME: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (approx.)
DRESS: Academic attire (with dark shoes)

Cap, gown and hood are required to participate. Please purchase academic regalia online at prior to March 6th to ensure that the correct size gown and hood color is specifically ordered for you. Students will be notified when their regalia has arrived at the Bookstore (approximately the last week of April); all regalia will be paid for at either the Troy or Albany bookstore at time of pick up.

Mail Back Card

The response card must be filled out and returned to the Office of Student Life no later than Friday, April 10, 2015 in order to be included on the list of those participating in the Commencement ceremony. No exceptions will be made. For those not intending to participate, please let us know by sending the card back as well.


An official photographer has been retained for the ceremony. Each candidate will be photographed as she/he receives the diploma case. No one else will be permitted to photograph in the stage area and candidate's section during the ceremony. Proofs will be mailed directly to graduates from the photographer with information on ordering.


If you would like your graduation announcement printed in your local hometown paper, please use the announcement card as a guide for filling out the necessary information. It is recommended that you fill out and mail in the card yourself. However, if you need assistance, please contact The Sage Colleges Office of Public Relations at 518-244-2246. Do not return the "press release" card with other correspondence you send to the Student Life Office.


Due to the large seating capacity of the Field House, tickets are not necessary for admission to Commencement but we ask you to limit your guests to no more than six. You will not be permitted to reserve seats prior to the event. The Field House will open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, at which time you may choose your seats. Someone must remain with the seats at all times. Seats cannot be saved after 9:15 a.m.


Parking immediately around the RPI Field House is very limited. We have made arrangements for parking and shuttle service from Troy High School and Doyle Middle School.

Please allow extra time for parking on Commencement day.


  • No alcohol will be permitted at this event. Possession of liquor during the ceremony will disqualify you from participating. RPI is also a tobacco free campus.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • PLEASE CHECK THE MAILING LABEL FOR CORRECT SPELLING OF YOUR NAME. If it is incorrect please notify us immediately.
