Beacon Institute and SENSE-IT
The Sage Colleges in Partnership with the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries for SENSE-IT (Student Enabled Network of Sensors for the Environment using Innovative Technology)
This project was designed to bring sensor technology into the classroom by providing teachers with the hands-on curriculum modules and equipment to teach their students to construct their own prototype water quality sensors. By bridging the gap between learning and doing, the ultimate goal was to further excite students about science, engineering and technology career paths. This summer, on the shore of the Hudson River, dozens of students and teachers from Capital Region high schools deployed, read, and interpreted water monitoring devices constructed during the intensive, two-week professional development course hosted by The Sage Colleges.
