Sage Students Bring Windows to Life for Annual Troy Victorian Stroll December 5, 2010
Shakespeare class at The Sage Colleges creates animated Victorian-themed windows for annual window decorating contest for the Troy
Professor David Salomon, chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, and his Shakespeare class created a themed window display for the Troy Victorian Stroll's annual window decorating contest. The windows, located at Pfeil Hardware on the corner of State and 3rd Street in Troy, remain decorated from early November through the New Year.
Professor Salomon and his class entitled their display "A Shakespearean Fantasy." The windows show a scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream in which Titania, the fairy queen, gazes at Bottom, who has been turned into a donkey, with the scornful and jealous Oberon (the king of the fairies) looking on.
As a bonus, the window came to life on December 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as Sage students replaced the mannequins with a live window display for the Stroll itself. A popular highlight of the Stroll is the annual window decorating contest, open to businesses and residences in downtown Troy.
The Sage College singers performed at the Troy Music Hall during the Stroll.
Sage also offered free parking in the parking lots on Division and 2nd Street during the Stroll.
Additionally, Sage students handed out hand warmers during the event to ensure that participants were warm and toasty!
The Troy Victorian Stroll is the region's premier free holiday event. More than 100 free attractions including the region's top performers, musicians, dancers, magicians, and storytellers were offered on Sunday, December 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than 20,000 visitors from throughout the Northeast were expected to attend this year.
