The Sage Colleges seeks a Director of Advising and Retention for Adult Education beginning August 25, 2008.
Responsibilities of this full-time administrative position include academic advising and support for undergraduate adult learners and coordination and reporting of retention efforts for undergraduate and graduate adult learners.
Qualifications include: Masters degree required with relevant education and experience. High level of computer literacy and proficiency in database management; ability to develop and analyze statistical reports; demonstrated success as a self-starter with the ability to work independently; proven track record as an advocate for continuing education and non-traditional students.

Director of Advising and Retention for Adult Education, TSC
POSITION: Twelve-month full-time administrative position. Schedule includes late day/early evening hours and some weekend time.
REPORTS TO: Associate Dean for Academic Services.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic advising and support for adult learners in the Sage After Work program; coordination and reporting of SAW and SGS retention activities
Academic Advising
Act as an intake adviser for new SAW students. Provide information about educational options and ensure a seamless routing process to faculty advisors or the advising office as appropriate.
Offer guidance to applied students on program placement, degree requirements and completion timelines
Oversee the entry of transfer credit information to create preliminary degree audits; monitor turnaround time by the transcript evaluator to insure a timely response to students.
Work with the Academic Dean to maintain an efficient credit for prior learning program (CLEP, credit for life/work experience); provide information consistently in brochures and other publications and encourage SAW students to take advantage of this option.
Identify any problems with online registration for SAW students and work with the Office of Student Services to resolve them.
Maintain ongoing relationships with enrolled students to assist them with academic or other needs or directing them to appropriate others who can do so.
Ensure proper transition to faculty advisor for academic advisement
Remain current on institutional procedures in the areas of Admission and Financial Aid to ease the entry process for new students
Interact with academic departments for informational purposes and trouble-shooting of academic issues related to retention and registration
Coordinate new student orientation for SAW and SGS
Retention
Coordinate retention efforts for Sage After Work and Sage Graduate School students, and following up rapidly and persistently with students who have not registered in a timely fashion each term,
Based on SAW student course and program needs make recommendations on scheduling changes to the Academic Dean
Working with appropriate IR and IT staff, develop a reliable and accurate framework for forecasting retention from term to term; provide reports that inform budget planning.
Work with the Associate Dean to research, develop, implement and maintain strong and successful institutional retention plan for adult learners
Attend SAW program coordinators curriculum committee meetings
Maintain ongoing communication with SAW and SGS programs coordinators in an effort to ensure appropriate service and support
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum masters degree required with relevant education and experience. High level of computer literacy and proficiency in data base management; ability to develop and analyze statistical reports. Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication and collaboration in a team environment. Demonstrated success as a self-starter with ability to work independently toward individual and institutional goals. The ideal candidate will also be an advocate for continuing education and non-traditional students.
