The Sage Colleges seek an Access Services Librarian beginning July 1, 2008.  Responsibilities of this full-time administrative with faculty rank position include supervision of access services functions, including circulation, reserves and stack maintenance; including managing staff, and department's budget; perform reference desk service; liaison responsibility with one or academic departments as assigned; participate in Libraries’ informatin Literacy program.

The successful candidate will have an ALA Accredited graduate degree and a successful post-MLS library work experience using an automated circulation system; as well as knowledge of SIRSI..

Salary dependent on qualifications and experience; generous benefits package includes tuition waiver for employee and spouse at Sage After Work or Sage Graduate School; tuition waiver for dependent children at Russell Sage College, Sage College of Albany, or Sage After Work.  Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Job Description:

ACCESS SERVICES LIBRARIAN Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Access Services Librarian is responsible for overseeing the functions of circulation, reserves and stack maintenance in both Sage campus libraries, including supervision of the associated staff.  This is a 12-month, full-time, permanent, multi-year, non-tenure track faculty position.  The primary location is at the Albany campus Library, with service at the Troy campus Library.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise access services functions, including circulation, reserves and stack maintenance:

Manage the staff performing those functions, including all personnel actions;Manage the department's budget, including development and execution;Be familiar with the Libraries' SIRSI modules appropriate to the work;Engage with other SIRSI users, both regionally and beyond;   Provide hands-on involvement as needed;Seek innovative ways to do the work better.

RESPONSIBILITIES SHARED WITH OTHER LIBRARIANS:

  • Participate in Libraries’ information literacy program;
  • Hold liaison responsibility with one or more academic departments, including collection development;
  • Perform reference desk service, normally including one evening weekly, and provision of online virtual reference service for remote users;
  • Be engaged with College life, including committee responsibilities as assigned or elected through the faculty governance system;
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of library services;
  • Maintain continued awareness of issues facing academic libraries through involvement in local, regional or national library organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ALA-accredited graduate degree
  • Successful post-MLS library work experience
  • Experience using an automated circulation system
  • Strong communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Post-secondary coursework in disciplines represented in the Sage curriculum.
