The Sage Colleges seek a Director of Financial Aid beginning June 1, 2008. Responsibilities of this full-time, administrative, position include leadership and supervision of Financial Aid operations within Sage's one-stop Student Services operation. The Director is responsible for providing quality internal and external customer service and financial aid counseling, enforcing compliance with all federal and state regulations, planning and reporting to ensure meeting of institutional strategic goals in areas of financial aid strategies, cash flow, student recruitment and retention. The Director also serves an integral partner in management team for Student Services at The Sage Colleges.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with substantial financial aid experience at the Assistant or Associate Director level acceptable as minimum requirement, Master's preferred.

The successful candidate will have a high level of competence and understanding of financial aid regulations and best practices, excellent communication and management skills inclusive of strong applications of database management The successful candidate will also have the ability to communicate and work collaboratively with all levels of the organization, as an effective leader providing an exemplary standard of service for all members of the college community.

Salary dependent on qualifications and experience; generous benefits package includes tuition waiver for employee and spouse at Sage After Work or Sage Graduate School; tuition waiver for dependent children at Russell Sage College, Sage College of Albany, or Sage After Work. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for monitoring the operation of the Offices of Student Financial Aid on the Albany and Troy campuses. The Director interprets and implements policies of the United States Department of Education, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, and The Sage Colleges. The Director analyzes, creates, and implements institutional financial aid awarding policies in concert with the Directors of Admission of The Sage Colleges. The Director is responsible for the proper administration and budgeting of over $20,000.000 in Federal, State, and institutional funds. The Director is responsible for staff development and general financial aid training of office personnel. The Director is responsible for the completion of all Federal, State, and institutional reports, including the FISAP. Additionally, the Director serves as a critical member of the management team that provides overall leadership for the Office of Student Services.

The Director of Financial Aid is specifically responsible for the following:
• Create, analyze, and implement institutional financial aid awarding strategy.
• Monitor institutional financial aid budget of four colleges.
• Interprets and implements policies of the United State Department of Education,
New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, and The Sage Colleges.
Prepare FISAP for the United States Department of Education.
• Review financial aid awarding, weekly, with Directors of Admission.
• Serve as a Colleague module leader.
• Create and update SAP rules for Colleague.
• Create and update student budget rules for Colleague.
• Create and update correspondence used in Colleague.
• Create and update electronic loan process used by Colleague.
• Create and update early estimator processing in Colleague.
• Install and update U.S. Department of Education EDE software.
• Utilize web tools provided by NYSHESC for reporting of academic standards related to TAP awards.
• Monitor NYS TAP grant program.
• Monitor NYS APTS grant program.
• Monitor NYS HEOP program.
• Monitor Federal Pell grant program,
• Monitor Federal work study program.
• Monitor Federal SEOG program.
• Monitor Federal Family Loan Programs.
• Monitor Federal Perkins Loan Programs.
• Monitor institutional work study program.
• Monitor institutional aid programs.
• Monitor the timely completion of Return to Title IV Aid
• Create and maintain positive relationships with student loan lenders.
• Plan and implement staff training and professional development activities.
• Attend and present financial aid seminars at the college and local high schools.
• Attend and participate in admissions programs like Open House.
• Review students for satisfactory academic progress.
• Meet with current and prospective students and their families.
• Call current and prospective students and their families who have financial aid concerns.
• Create and update financial aid publications.
• Create and update office policies and procedures manual.
• Provide current information to update financial aid web page.
• Prepare information and report to the Development Office.
• Prepare information for college annual report.
• Prepare information and report to guidebook requests (Peterson's, etc.)
• Prepare information and student files for annual audit and program reviews.
• Assist with recruiting the incoming class.
• Assist with retaining current students.
• Administer and monitor the Tuition Exchange Program.


REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree required, or bachelor’s degree with substantial experience as an Assistant/Associate Director of Financial Aid in a similarly complex institution. High level of competence in database management, experience with Datatel Colleague software preferred. Understanding of relationship between financial aid management, student satisfaction, recruitment and retention and institutional fiscal responsibility. Strong communication skills, including one on one, within groups, and in written form; facility with Microsoft Office software suite. Student-centered approach to financial aid processes. Effective leader of others to achieve an exemplary standard of service for all members of the college community.
