Employee Benefits

A comprehensive and competitive employee benefits program is provided to all employees.

Health Insurance

The College provides employee health insurance through The Sage Colleges Health Insurance Plan. This plan is an alternative funded insurance plan with a third party administrator, Preferred Benefit Administrators Incorporated.

Eligibility: Full Time Employment Status. First day of work.

Employee contributions to the health plan are based on salary level and type of coverage utilized. Deductions are taken on a pre-tax basis.

Part-time continuing employees who are employed half-time or more may purchase insurance from The Sage Colleges.

Dental Insurance

A voluntary dental plan is available.

Eligibility: Full Time Employment Status. First of the month following hire date.

Medical & Dependent Care Tax Savings Program

This savings program is available for employees with planned needs. Employees may establish a flexible spending account of pre-tax dollars annually to cover planned medical and dependent care expenses. Enrollment is conducted annually in accordance with IRS regulations.

Eligibility: Full- and Part-Time Employment Status. First day of work.

Group Life Insurance

The College provides life insurance at 2 times an employee's salary up to $300,000. Accidental Death and Dismemberment is included in this protection plan.

Eligibility: Full-Time Employment Status. First day of work.

Long Term Disability (LTD)

The College provides this income protection plan for an employee unable to perform their job after 180 days. The protection provides a disabled employee with 66 2/3% of the after tax salary and will pay retirement plan premiums. The College provides this benefit at no cost to full-time employees.

Eligibility: Full time employment status. First day of work.

Travel Accident Insurance

The College provides this protection for all employees who may be injured in the course of travel while performing their job. Coverage includes a dismemberment and death benefit.

Eligibility: All employees receive this benefit at no cost. First day of work.

Retirement Plan

A comprehensive retirement plan (403b) through Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association/College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA/CREF) is available after one year to employees working at least 1,000 hours per year. New employees with existing TIAA/CREF contracts or other eligible plans may join our plan immediately.

Joining the plan, a participant agrees to contribute 5% from base pay, before taxes and the College will match 10% OR contribute 2.5% from base pay, before taxes and the College will match 5%.

Supplement Retirement Annuity

This savings plan is immediately available to employees working at least 1,000 hours. A loan provision is available in this plan. The amount an employee can contribute is based upon annual earnings and will be calculated by our Provider, TIAA-CREF, annually in accordance with IRS regulations.

Tuition Assistance

Full-time employees enjoy comprehensive education benefits.

  • Employee and Spouse or qualifying Domestic Partner - Up to 12 credits per semester during the academic year or 6 credits per summer session through the Sage College of Albany center for extended learning or Sage Graduate School.
  • Part-time employees and Spouse or qualifying Domestic Partner - may take one course per semester through Sage College of Albany center for extended learning or Sage Graduate School.
  • Children - Full, undergraduate tuition waiver within The Sage Colleges.

After three years of service, the employee is eligible for an annual tuition payment of $2,000 per dependent student, for children attending colleges other than Sage. The lifetime benefit maximum is $16,000 for an employee.

Tuition Exchange: Sage participates in two national tuition exchanges, the Tuition Exchange and CIC Tuition Exchange. Both are non-profit organizations that offer full or partial scholarship to eligible children of employees. Applications are available from the Office of Student Financial Services. Acceptance into these aid programs is dependent on the host institution's selection criteria and availability of exchange placements.

Employee Assistance Program

The Sage Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is designed to provide confidential, professional counseling for problems that may adversely affect an employee's work or personal life. Services are a prepaid benefit of employment available to all employees and their immediate family.
