Assistant or Associate Professor of History

The Department of History, Law and Government at The Sage Colleges invites applicants to apply for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at assistant or associate professor rank effective Fall 2010.

The position calls for a historian of the modern South Atlantic community, with a doctorate in Latin America/Caribbean history and/or West African history, and with the ability to teach courses in both areas. Moreover, the research and studies of candidates for this position must strongly emphasize the history of women and gender, focusing on issues of women in the developing countries. In addition, background and experience in secondary social studies education is desirable for this position.

This full-time position involves teaching primarily in the History program at Russell Sage College, an undergraduate college for women in Troy, New York, and may include teaching assignments at other venures within The Sage Colleges. The History program at Russell Sage Colleges plays an important role supporting other programs, including: Education, Globalization and International Studies, American Studies, environmental Studies, Women's Studies, and WORLD (part of our general education core). The successful candidate for our position will be involved with these programs.

Our position also entails teaching in, and possible coordination of the graduate Master of Arts in Teaching-Social Studies program of the School of Education. The position also offers opportunities to teach courses on the Albany campus of The Sage Colleges during the day, in the evening, or on weekends. Other responsibilities include student recruitment and advisement, scholarly work, and college related service.
