Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences in historic Troy, NY. The Sage Colleges, located in the Capital Region of New York State, include Russell Sage College for Women, Sage College of Albany, and Sage Graduate School. Sages Physical Therapy Department includes an undergraduate program in Health Sciences, through Russell Sage College, and the professional entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy and the Transition Doctor of Physical Therapy programs through Sage Graduate School.
The department is one of four (Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy) in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The DPT degree was the first of 3 professional doctoral degrees (DNS in Nursing Education and Leadership, EdD in Educational Leadership and Doctor of Physical Therapy) to be offered through Sage Graduate School. The chair of the PT Department reports to the Dean of Sage Graduate School (SGS) and meet regularly with the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Qualified applicants will be eligible for physical therapy licensure in NY, have a post-professional doctoral degree, have sufficient qualifications for the rank of associate professor in a tenure track position, demonstrate an understanding of higher education and contemporary physical therapy clinical practice, have a minimum of three years of teaching, clinical practice and administrative experience, and a demonstrated commitment to scholarship, life long learning and service. The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills, the ability to mentor faculty in both teaching and research, strong fiscal management skills, and the ability to lead the department in its strategic planning. The Chair will also be responsible for providing the leadership and vision to position the department for continued success with collaborative community research partners and to expand external funding initiatives.

Chair of the Physical Therapy Department and DPT Program Director
Reports to: The DPT Program Director reports to the Dean of Sage Graduate School (SGS) and meet regularly with the Dean of SGS. The Dean SGS evaluates the administrative performance of DPT Program Director. The PT Department Chair reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and meets regularly with the VPAA and the Deans to advise the VPAA on vacant position descriptions and allocations, budgets, planning and other operational matters. The VPAA evaluates the administrative performance of the PT Department Chair.
Responsibilities:
1. Meet with prospective DPT students.
2. With Admission develop recruitment materials for prospective students.
3. Develop and update articulation agreements with 2- and 4- year colleges.
4. Participate in student recruitment activities, i.e., open houses, visits to articulating institutions, etc.
5. Review admission applications and make decisions on applicant to the DPT Program.
6. Prepare correspondence to enrolled and prospective students.
7. Resolve student problems, as appropriate.
8. Actively pursue retention efforts with students.
9. Prepare the academic course schedule and allocate room assignments for the DPT, Health Science and transition DPT programs in consultation with the HSC program coordinator and the tDPT program director.
10. Provide catalogue update program material to Dean of College.
11. Oversee and manage web content.
12. Develop and manage program budget.
13. Lead program evaluation, outcomes assessment work, and curriculum development.
14. Build community within the HSC, DPT and tDPT programs.
15. Meet with other department chairs to coordinate evaluation of cross-departmental and jointly appointed faculty.
16. Work collectively with the Vice President on institutional planning.
17. Facilitate new program development.
18. Prepare and manage department budgets and resources and provide oversight of coordinators/directors budgets.
19. Oversee outcomes assessment work and program evaluation with the HSC Coordinator and tDPT Program Director.
20. Review faculty grants.
21. Lead accreditation activities. Prepare Self- Study Repot, accreditation progress reports and annual accreditation reports.
22. Promote community partners for collaborative research.
23. Work with advisement office to assign faculty advisors to students.
24. Represent and advocate for all faculty in their departments.
25. Assign faculty teaching load and provide load information to deans including advisement responsibilities.
26. Hire and evaluate adjuncts.
27. Prepare faculty evaluations and recommend sabbatical leaves.
28. Mentor faculty in the preparation of their faculty development plans.
29. Assign new faculty their mentors. Provide mentorship to junior faculty for promotion and/or tenure.
30. Supervise and evaluate secretarial and support personnel.
31. Lead faculty searches with VPAA, College Deans.
32. Arrange and lead advisory committee meetings at least once a year.
Qualifications: Earned post-professional doctorate; senior faculty status; vision for physical therapist education; and understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education; minimum of 3 years of clinical and administrative experience; strong negotiation skills; experience in strategic planning; effective interpersonal and conflict-management skills; effective management skills for human and fiscal resources; and commitment to scholarship, life long learning, and service.
