Web Page/Bibliographic Essay

This assignment is meant to accomplish two things: first, it is intended to have you learn how and
to set up a basic home page on the Internet from your mainframe account; second, that home
page will be a bibliographic essay dealing with some issue of interest to you, in your major or your
career.

1) What is a bibliographic essay? A bibliography is a list of items (books, journal articles, etc.)
related to a particular subject. A bibliographic essay puts that information into the form of an
essay and includes remarks on those items. See the attached information on "bibliographic essay."

2) How do I combine that with a web page? The items contained in your bibliographic essay will
be resources found on the Internet. Thus, the web page you write will contain pointers (including
your remarks) to the resources you think are important to your subject. For example: if you are
writing a bibliographic essay on Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, your page will contain pointers to
Internet sites with information on Chaucer; it will also include your brief remarks on those sites
and their usefulness.

3) What should a successful bibliographic essay contain? Your essay should contain links to no
fewer than twenty resources on the Internet. You can implement as little or as much HTML
tagging as you would like; be as creative as you like (use images, sound, etc.).

As all good web pages are, yours too should always be "under construction." As the Internet
changes regularly, it is important to make sure that your site is up-to-date and does not contain
broken links and bad coding.

The page is "due" on the last day of class. That is the day I will look at each page and give them a
grade. However, you should begin working on this now and continue to work on it for the rest of
the semester. Send me e-mail if you have coding problems or questions; it is very easy for me to
go look at the page and give you feedback. Invite your fellow classmates and your friends to take
a look and also give you feedback.
