This icon of Gregory of Nyssa was created by an anonymous Russian
iconographer in the mid to late 1980's. It was brought to
St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, MA, by a retreatant. Click on the

These translations (some with introductions) are by Richard McCambly, a Cistercian monk of St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts. He has published translations of many of Gregory's works, including the Song of Songs Commentary and the Commentary on The Inscriptions of The Psalms, both published by Hellenic College Press. Other translations have appeared in scholarly journals. This page is maintained by David A. Salomon, a PhD in English literature who teaches English, Philosophy, and Humanities at Black Hills State University. His doctoral dissertation, "Examinations of Conscience: The Development of Jesuit Mystical Spirituality in Post-Reformation England," includes a chapter on Gregory of Nyssa, and discusses works by Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton and the Jesuits, Robert Parsons and Robert Bellarmine; he is also the list-creator and owner of Mystic-L, an Internet group for the academic discussion of mysticism. His published work has also appeared in Christianity and Literature and Sixteenth Century Studies.
