Inauguration Webcast

Letter from the President
September 15, 2009

Dear Sage friends and family,

In light of the current economic situation, to which Sage has not been immune, the Board of Trustees and I have decided to scale back Inauguration.

Instead of a large formal ceremony at an outside venue, the Friday, October 23rd academic ceremony will be held on campus at the Bush Memorial Center in Troy. Seating will be limited to members of the academic procession (faculty and local college presidents) and special invited guests. A section will be reserved for students on a first-come, first-served basis.

We hope that all members of the Sage family will join us in celebrating this new beginning for Sage by lining the streets for the procession to Bush, and by watching a simulcast of the event under a tent in Sage Park (just outside Bush), where cider and donuts will be served. A shuttle will be provided from the Albany campus, or you can choose to watch the simulcast in the Opalka Gallery, where I will join the reception in progress after the ceremony.

Inauguration will complete a week of community-focused events highlighting Sage's excellence in academics, arts, athletics, community service, and health sciences. The theme of "Sage Engaged" -- in learning, in our communities, and in the world -- will run throughout the activities of the week as well as the entire Inaugural year, during which I will be visiting with Sage alumni around the country.

We hope you will follow the Inauguration events on this website and if you are not able to make it to campus, tune in here for the webcast of the ceremony.

Best Regards,

Susan C. Scrimshaw, Ph.D.

Thoughts from Alums in Response to Letter from the President:

"As an alumnae of RSC, I find it refreshing that the Inauguration Ceremony is being scaled back in light of these difficult economic times. And these thoughtful moments further solidifies my belief that I went to a College that considers the big picture while maintaining a level of responsibility to the campus community.

Thank you for continuing to make me proud of RSC."

Best,

"Dear Dr. Scrimshaw,

Congratulations on your decision. I understand totally the economic problems facing Sage. I am VP for Institutional Advancement at Adirondack Community College and we are also feeling the crunch.

Let me wish you all the best in your work. And, if I might ask, please remember my division of Sage, Sage Graduate School, from which I took my MS in Public Administration. I credit position I hold today at ACC to that program and give special credit to Dr. Cynthia J. Ward, Associate Professor of Public Administration. Please say hello to her for me the next time youre on the Albany campus.

May your inauguration be memorable."
