Join us for a fascinating evening learning about video game writing and design from industry experts Evan Skolnick and Jonathan Mintz.

Building a strong narrative for video gaming's largest army of super heroes required a unique fusion of writing techniques, tools, and production strategies. Join Lead Writer Evan Skolnick and Narrative Designer Jonathan Mintz as they take a deep dive into storytelling for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, a modern, large-scale action role-playing game. You'll learn how they worked with the team to plan the narrative, develop the game's characters and world, and integrate story with gameplay. They'll share best practices for creating and organizing the wealth of content that modern games require - along with some hard-earned tips about pitfalls to avoid.

Speaker Bios

Evan SkolnickEvan Skolnick, a Producer and Editorial Director at Menands-based video game developer Vicarious Visions, has a decade of experience in the video game industry and over 20 years of experience as a professional writer and editor, including a number of Marvel Comics titles.  A former journalist, Evan has contributed to the narrative content of over 20 top-selling titles and has spoken at numerous industry conferences on writing for video games.  He was lead writer for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 (Xbox 360, PS3), which was nominated for "Outstanding Achievement in Story Adaptation" by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences and was co-writer and producer of Over the Hedge (DS), winner of IGN "Best Games of 2006" Award.

Jonathan MintzJonathan Mintz has been working as a Game Designer at Vicarious Visions since 2004. Most recently, he served as Lead Designer on Guitar Hero for the iPhone, launched in June of 2010. Prior to that, he served as Narrative Designer on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. His previous roles have included writing, mission design, and controls design for titles such as Spider-Man 3 and Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam. In 2009, he led the design of Mixed Messages, an original IP released as the first third-party Nintendo DSiWare title. Jonathan has also worked as Lead Designer on handheld titles including Ultimate Spider-Man and Madagascar. He is a Coordinator for the Albany chapter of the International Game Developers Association.
