Sage College of Albany is pleased to announce its Innovation Thinking inaugural Spring Lecture Program featuring Peter Coughlan from IDEO, a premiere global design firm in Palo Alto, California.
During this one-hour interactive Skype session, Dr. Coughlin will speak about human-centered design--what it is, why it has become important, and his experience working with Sloan-Kettering Institute among others. The ensuing interactive discussion will challenge the audience to consider the one thing in the world that most needs to be redesigned. Thinking like a designer can transform the way organizations develop products, services, processes, and strategy. This approach, which IDEO calls design thinking, brings together what is desirable from a human point of view with what is technologically feasible and economically viable. IDEO helps organizations build creative cultures and the internal systems required to sustain innovation and launch new ventures.
Dr. Coughlan coleads IDEO’s Health and Wellness practice focusing on helping clients create disruptive new offers that change the landscape of health care. He has worked with medical-device manufacturers, health-care delivery systems, the pharmaceutical industry, and foundations. His clients include Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, Maine General Health, Mass General, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Medtronic, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Stanford Hospital and Clinics, and Texas Health Resources. Before joining the Health & Wellness practice, Peter cofounded IDEO’s Transformation practice, a group dedicated to helping organizations develop design and innovation capabilities.
This lecture is hosted by Innovation Thinking (i.Think), central to Sage's core educational curriculum. The three-course sequence is designed to impart skills for success in the 21st century. All students, regardless of their major, encounter creative problem solving, critical thinking, group interaction, leadership, design thinking and community engagement via i.Think.
