President of The Sage Colleges Susan C. Scrimshaw has been named the 2014 recipient of the Society for Medical Anthropology’s Career Achievement Award. President Scrimshaw was presented with the honor on December 5, 2014 during an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. The event took place in conjunction with the American Anthropological Association’s annual conference.

The Sage Colleges will host the 13th Annual Northeast U.S. Character Education Youth Leadership Summit on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Russell Sage campus in Troy. More than 225 middle and high school students from over 20 local school districts will participate in the conference sponsored by The Academy for Character Education at The Sage Colleges.

Students in a Creative Arts in Therapy course at Russell Sage College recently led two nights of creative arts activities for adolescents on the autism spectrum. The community service project known as SAGE (Super Activities, Great Enjoyment), is now in its 4th year of providing creative opportunities in music, art, dance, and theatre.
Theater Institute at Sage to Produce a New Adaptation of Christmas Carol with Scrooge and Marley Interchanging RolesNovember 21, 2014 at 11:03 am
The Theatre Institute at Sage (TIS) is producing a new adaptation of an old favorite with a few twists. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, will be written and directed by David Bunce, and feature the beloved area actors John Romeo and Ron Komora as Scrooge and Marley – the two actors will be trading the roles of Scrooge and Marley each performance.

Sage College of Albany will host artist Benjamin Entner in the next talk of its 2014-15 Artist Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 7 p.m. The new series was launched in late August and is sponsored by the Opalka Gallery and Sage College of Albany’s Department of Art + Design.

Faculty and students from The Sage Colleges will visit Brunswick/Brittonkill Central School District on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 to encourage student participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning activities. The presenters will demonstrate to Tamarac Middle and High School students how different centers of gravity affect their ability to complete a simple task. They will also facilitate a hands-on problem solving activity.

The Sage Colleges is pleased to welcome Kate Dahlstedt, LMHC, co-founder and acting executive director of Soldier’s Heart, to the Russell Sage campus in Troy on Wednesday, November 12 at 1 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center. Dahlstedt’s talk entitled “My Brother's/Sister's Keeper” is aimed at inspiring people across the nation to consider the true costs of war, how it impacts troops, families, and their greater communities. Dahlstedt will explore the relationship between how we treat our military veterans, especially women, and the difficulty they have reintegrating into civilian life. She will explain why we all have the responsibility to be part of their homecoming.

The Sage Colleges is pleased to host the Environmental Consortium of Colleges and Universities 11th annual conference on Saturday, November 8 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Russell Sage campus in Troy. The conference entitled “The Pedagogical Pursuit of Environmental ‘Truth’: Mobilizing our Collective Expertise,” will offer an opportunity for participants to exchange approaches to pedagogy and collaborative programs aimed at advancing our region as a global center of environmental knowledge and learning.
