The Sage Colleges: 2010 Commencement

Albany and Troy, NY - The Sage Colleges are pleased to announce that the former Executive Director of Amnesty International Dr. William Schulz will deliver the 94th commencement address at the May 15, 2010 ceremony.

During his time with Amnesty International, Schulz traveled the globe in an effort to bring an end to human rights violations. He led missions to the refugee camps of Darfur, Liberian prisons, Northern Ireland, Cuba and Mongolia. He has traveled across the United States from campuses to boardrooms and is a frequent guest on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Hardball and Nightline. He is also the author of two books on human rights; In Our Own Best Interest: How Defending Human Rights Benefits Us All and Tainted Legacy: 9/11 and the Ruin of Human Rights.

Schulz is currently a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC, where he works in the area of human rights policy and holds appointments as an Adjunct Professor of Public Administration at the Wagner School of New York University and an Affiliated Professor at Meadville/Lombard Theological School at the University of Chicago.

Sage to Honor Benita Zahn

The Sage Colleges are also proud to award Benita Zahn an honorary Doctorate of Public Service degree at this year's ceremonies. Zahn has been a reporter and news anchor with WNYT for many years and her commitment and connection to the community continues to grow. She favors health related news stories, covering issues including wellness, treatment breakthroughs, aging, nutrition and the latest in health care trends. She is actively involved with the Ronald McDonald House, serves as an Honorary Chair for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Run and is the community liaison to the St. Peter's Hospital Ethics Board. In addition to her role as health reporter, Zahn also produces and hosts Health LINK on WMHT and finds time to perform in local theatrical productions. Her theater credits include performances at the Albany Civic Theater, Schenectady Civic Theater and Park Playhouse.

A total of 785 degrees earned will be conferred, including associate, bachelor, master and doctoral degrees, as well as post-baccalaureate and post master's certificates. This includes students who completed their requirements in August, and December of 2009 and May of 2010.
