Sage Supports The Great American Smokeout

Albany & Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges will be smoke-free on November 18, as part of the American Cancer Society’s 35th Annual Great American Smokeout. The Sage community is asked to refrain from smoking on either campus.

Sage’s smokeout is sponsored by the Wellness Centers and Office of Recreation and Fitness. Sage encourages those who smoke to use this day to take important steps toward a healthier and longer life. Literature and information will be available in both Albany and Troy for those looking to quit or to help someone else.


Important facts about tobacco use:

  • Tobacco use remains the world’s most preventable cause of death.
  • Cigarette smoking accounts for about 443,000 premature deaths – including 49,400 in nonsmokers.
  • Thirty percent of cancer deaths, including 87 percent of lung cancer deaths, can be attributed to smoking.
  • Smoking accounts for more than $193 billion in health care expenditures and productivity losses annually
