Assistant Dean Porfirio appointed to National LGBTQ Leadership Camp Faculty

Camp designed to shape stronger campus administrators

Albany, NY – Sage’s Assistant Dean of Students Vincent Porfirio has been selected to return for a second year as a Camp Pride Summer Leadership Camp Faculty member for the 2011 National LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) Leadership Camp in Nashville, Tennessee.

The mission of the Camp Pride Summer Leadership Camp is to enhance leadership skills among LGBTQ and Ally undergraduate college student leaders and to create safer and more inclusive campus communities in the United States.  

For the 2011 Leadership Camp, Porfirio was tapped to design a Professional Track to address the growing needs of college and university administrators who work directly with LGBTQ populations. Attendees have the opportunity to learn valuable campus organizing skills, coalition building and strategies for creating and anchoring change at colleges and universities. The 2011 camp will be held from Tuesday, July 19 to Sunday, July 24, 2011 at historic Vanderbilt University. Registration is limited to approximately 60 undergraduate and 20 advisor participants.

Porfirio is currently the Assistant Dean of Students and adjunct faculty member at The Sage Colleges. He is finishing a Masters in Business Administration and Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the Sage Graduate School, as well as a Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Vincent is also the recipient of various scholarships and fellowships from The Sage Colleges, University at Albany and Harvard University.
