Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges School of Education has developed a new afterschool program for Albany city school children. Modeled after the successful Harlem Children’s Zone’s initiate, the Scholar’s Institute at Sage is an enriched academic program providing children the opportunity to enhance their reading and writing skills.

The goal of the Scholar’s Institute is to ensure students are prepared for middle school, high school and college by providing structure and the foundation for future academic success. Fifth and sixth graders from the City School District of Albany visit Sage College of Albany three afternoons a week for intensive, small group instruction led by certified teachers hired by the district and facilitated by the School of Education’s pre-service teacher education candidates.

The School of Education strives to create opportunities that allow students close interaction with faculty and peers, working in a collaborative practice environment where they gain clinically-rich field experience through service learning and student teaching placements tailored to each student’s program and career goals.
