NELGBT Conference

Albany & Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges will proudly host the 17th annual Northeast Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Conference (NELGBTC) March 30 – April 1.

The theme of the undergraduate leadership conference is Spectrum: reaching across the rainbow to inspire, empower and unite. Forums, workshops and panel discussions will focus on learning, equality, identity, and various issues and trends currently impacting LGBT youth. Sage will introduce an advisory component to the conference, welcoming educators to attend seminars tailored for their roles as student mentors.

”The conference will further highlight Sage’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and compassion,” said Vincent Porfirio, assistant dean of students at The Sage Colleges and conference co-chair. “Sage has a long history of celebrating diversity and the conference will showcase the uniqueness of our dynamic students, faculty and leaders on campus.”

Students and advisors from colleges around the Northeast are invited to attend this celebratory weekend to network, reconnect with friends and to hone their leadership skills so that they can further create change and set a courageous example for other generations.

Sage has secured a stellar lineup of speakers, including comedienne Kate Clinton and Daniel Hernandez, the University of Arizona student credited with saving the life of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford. Dona Ann McAdams, the artist best known for creating the AIDS ribbon, Bebe Zahara Benet, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, author Shane Windmeyer and advocate T.J. Jourian are among the other talents sharing their stories and entertaining students throughout this long weekend.

The Sage Colleges seeks to nurture an environment of acceptance and safety that provides for teachable moments. Hosting the NELGBT Conference allows Sage to put those works into action and sentiment into practice.
