ALBANY, NY – Sage is pleased to announce the purchase of the New Scotland Avenue armory, which sits on three acres adjacent to the Sage College of Albany campus.

Over the next several years, Sage plans to retrofit the two-story armory and its three-story drill shed, totaling 68,000 square feet of space, for new classrooms, faculty offices and assembly space.

The local landmark was built in 1914 for the New York National Guard and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The armory was last used by the National Guard in 1999. Sage intends to renovate and preserve the buildings' historic facade.

“This acquisition results in an exciting expansion of our campus footprint," said Susan Scrimshaw, president of The Sage Colleges. "In addition, it gives us the opportunity to expand our facilities in critical ways to accommodate our growing population of both undergraduate and graduate students.”

The number of resident students at Sage College of Albany has increased 95 percent since 2008, and full-time student enrollment has grown 32 percent. Over the same time, graduate student enrollment has also increased 27 percent.
