Opalka Gallery Welcomes the Work of Milton Glaser
Albany, NY – The Opalka Gallery continues its 10th anniversary season with Milton Glaser’s In Search of the Miraculous: Or One Thing Leads to Another. This exhibition takes an in-depth look at the creative processes of one of the most influential graphic designers in the world, and celebrates the unpredictability of creative action.
Also on view, at The Little Gallery, is The Posters: A Survey. Glaser’s highly lauded designs and illustrations are direct and simple, reaching his clients’ needs gracefully and effortlessly. Since 1974, Glaser’s studio, Milton Glaser Inc. has created corporate identities, packaging, and product design for such top-notch clientele as The Holocaust Museum, NY Film Fest, Sony, Brooklyn Brewery, Target, Jet Blue, Coach, Trump, and Juilliard. He is also, of course, known for the I Heart NY campaign, and the iconic Bob Dylan poster. This exhibition will give viewers a glimpse into the archives of his work.
Born in 1929 in New York City, he received his education from Cooper Union, as well as the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Italy under the tutelage of Giorgio Morandi. He founded and directed Pushpin studios for 20 years, and formed WBMG, a publication design firm, in 1983. Glaser has had a massive impact on the worlds of illustration and design, and has been rewarded for his contributions by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Society of Illustrators, and the Type Directors Club. He has also educated emerging designers by teaching at SVA and Cooper Union in New York City. He has had solo shows in the Museum of Modern Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, and the Lincoln Center Gallery, and his work is in permanent collections at Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and Smithsonian Institution.
