Albany, NY – The Opalka Gallery continues its 10th anniversary season with Stories & Journeys: The Works of Faith Ringgold & Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, which is on display through April 21.

The exhibition creates an inspired visual journey through memory, as the artists weave their stories into their images, ripe with heritage and community. Stories & Journeys examines the mythologies of identity, culture and collective memory. Co-curated by Mikaela Sardo Lamarche, curator of the ACA Galleries in New York City, and Fabienne Powell, Stories & Journeys appears courtesy of ACA Galleries.

Born in Harlem, Ringgold is a painter, mixed media sculptor, teacher, humanist, lecturer and author of numerous award winning children’s books. Her evolving artistry has taken many forms including social realism, performance art and soft sculpture and her work is in the permanent collections of numerous museums in the United States and abroad.

Robinson creates drawings, cloth paintings, woodcuts, books and sculptures in diverse media which capture, preserve and celebrate the history of her native Columbus, OH and the places she visits. Her illustrations have appeared in a number of children’s books and her work can be found in both public and private collections.
