Les Miserables, Featuring Two Actors from the Original Broadway Production, Makes Musical Magic at Sage Sept. 28 - Oct. 6

September 23, 2013 at 7:07 pm

Les Miserables, Broadway’s brilliant musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale of love, loss, honor and redemption, will open the Theatre Institute at Sage's fourth season.

Set against the backdrop of pre-revolutionary France, Les Miserables is considered a stage triumph like no other.

Since its world premiere in London, the show has become the world’s longest-running musical, translated into 22 languages, winner of more than 100 theater awards and seen by more than 60 million people worldwide. The show’s original producer, Cameron Mackintosh, worked with creators Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, in collaboration with Herbert Kretzmer, to create what The New York Times called “thrilling, spectacular and unforgettable.” The London Times said it was “astonishingly powerful,” and Le Figaro of Paris deemed it “artistic perfection.”

Featured in this production are the original Les Miserables Broadway production actors Craig Schulman (Jean Valjean) and Gary Lynch (Javert). Also featured in the cast are local equity actor and Theatre Institute at Sage Artist-in-Residence David Bunce (Thenardier) with Sage alumna Sarah Bitley (Madame Thenardier). Theatre Institute at Sage actors include Leslie Tucker (Fantine), Kate Corsaro (Eponine), Olivia Radiches (Cosette), Nick Martiniano (Enjolras), and Joshua Palagyi (Marius). The cast consists of 36 actors from the Capital District.

Established in 2011, the Theatre Institute at Sage is dedicated to providing quality live theatre and arts-in-education programming to Capital Region youth, educators and residents. The Institute also provides opportunities for Russell Sage students as performers, technicians and teachers. Programs include educational support services for Sage productions (such as in-class preparations, teacher in-services and study guides), a Saturday theatre arts school, camps during school breaks, and several theatre camps during the summer for children ages 5-18. Programs take place on the Russell Sage College campus in Troy, NY.
