Actor Brian Delate to Perform for Sage Students
TROY, NY - The Sage Colleges is proud to host actor Brian Delate on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 1 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center on the Russell Sage campus. Delate is appearing as part of the World Series Cultural Convocation program.
Delate will act out part of his most recent play entitled “Memorial Day.” Delate, who is a Vietnam veteran, wrote the play as a catalyst to draw attention to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder among veterans and to promote suicide prevention and healing for our military men and women suffering from PTSD. Actress Ellen Burstyn and actor/producer Harvey Keitel served as mentors on the project.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 1 in 5 military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan has PTSD and about 22 veterans commit suicide each day.
Delate is a writer, director and author, best known for his roles in “The Brave One” (directed by Neil Jordan, with Jodie Foster); “Salome” on Broadway ( directed by Estelle Parsons); “Buffalo Soldiers” (directed by Gregor Jordan, with Ed Harris and Joaquin Phoenix); “The Truman Show” (directed by Peter Weir, with Jim Carrey and Laura Linney); “Far From Heaven” (directed by Todd Haynes); and “The Shawshank Redemption” (directed by Frank Darabont, with Tim Robbins).
