G. Elizabethe Mayhew enjoys teaching and creating classes for judicial branch employees, being a class agent, and visiting Sage through the years. She’s taken on more volunteer responsibilities at church and is learning a great deal.

Eileen Meltzer is a nurse practitioner for Planned Parenthood in Kingston, NY. She loved living in Spanish House junior and senior years because doing so felt like living at home — everyone living there was like family.

I received an e-mail from Linda McLean prior to Reunion. She has retired after a career in the museum field. She began as a docent at the home of Robert R. Livingston and ended as director at Olana, home of the Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church. She is settling into a new home and getting established in a new community. She keeps her hand in the museum field by sitting on a couple of boards in the Capital District. Linda reports that Crystal Robbins Monteverd plans to retire and that Loueen Whalen is a physical therapist. Since Linda was not at Reunion, I can only assume she got lucky at the casino in Monte Carlo: “If you don’t see me, know I have extended my stay and am lifting a glass of fine wine toasting all of you from somewhere in France!”

Sherry Egan Schrade reports that after more than 29 years of teaching high school math, she has retired to become a full-time grandma. In 2003, their son was killed in an automobile accident. Sherry, few of us can imagine that pain.

Mary Frederick Monk retired in 2010 after 34 years of elementary teaching. She is an active member and past president of the PTA and Montgomery-Fulton Reading Council. A former trustee of the Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery, she is on the board of The Children’s Aid Associa¬tion with Carol Palombi Douglas. She has traveled to all 50 states plus to the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand.

There will be more updates from the Reunion surveys in the future. Remember, only you can write your life, so keep your classmates up to date.

Hope everyone's summer was great! Did anyone get together? Have you joined "Russell Sage College 1977" on Facebook yet? There are great pictures and comments from Reunion.

The Friday night of Reunion, I did get an email from Terry Schlatter and Diane Moberg. They had a mini reunion together. "Mo" could not attend because she had recently had a total knee replacement. Terry said Mo is “climbing the corporate ladder” at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. One daughter is starting physical therapy school, another is 6'5 and plays hoops at Penn State.

I have two grown sons: one in banking, and the other a pastry chef outside of Washington, DC.

I received sad news from the alumnae office. Karen Deiber has passed away. I have no other information at this time and if I receive anything I will post it on our Facebook page. We all need to take care of ourselves! Enjoy the fall and send me any information.

Donna Giffune’s daughter Emily, a 2009 Sage graduate, graduated cum laude from Albany Law School this May, and daughter Elizabeth graduated cum laude from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY.

Lori Littman wrote that Andrea Lupino and several other classmates attended a gather¬ing at Ruth Hansen’s house.

I, Sharon Wuinee Spicer, Pat Sirois Kuldell and Theresa Ferrer Laraia enjoyed our summer reunion hosted by Carol Steria Heft ’82 in Allentown, PA. This reunion has been taking place for 21 years and each year it is hosted by a different alumna. This reunion is a family event and our kids, 14 in all, look forward to it as much as we do.

Next June it will be our 30th class Reunion. If you have ever experienced a Class of 1983 Red Devil Reunion, you know we have a great time celebrating! If you have never come back, please consider it in 2013 for our 30th!

Happy birthday to those of us Horseshoes that hit the Big 5-0 this year! It's been fun seeing many of you on Facebook as you celebrate your birthday. I was fortunate to join four of my best Horseshoe friends in celebrating our birthdays on a cruise to Canada. Elizabeth Ashley O'Connor, Kathleen Pacyna Thompson, Wendy Carvalho Krauss, Penny Manly and I, Amy Young, spent five days on the Carnival Glory in July, cruising from Boston, MA to Saint John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. In true Class of '84 style, we not only used our demitasse spoons correctly, we left them on the table and didn't attempt to smuggle them out in the sleeves of our dresses. Emma Willard, Olivia Slocum Sage and Phyllis Hoyt would be proud! And, having a learned a thing or two from Rally Day, we dressed in style for evening meals in the "Golden Dining Room." Unfortunately, Penny forgot to pack her famous Rally Turban, but I'm hoping it will show up on a future cruise. It was a perfect way to reconnect with great friends and celebrate our milestone birthdays!

Hello Red Devils. Many of you received friend requests on Facebook from Terry and Dawn. We are hoping to gather updated information on the lives of our classmates, so feel free to share as often as possible.

Using our “keen investigative skills” on Facebook we learned that Jackie Malin Steele and Kathleen Hanrahan Olchowski are once again classmates. They are finishing their last year of nursing school attend Capital Community College in Hartford, CT.

Brenda Bateson Bannon’s son and Gretchen Meyer O’Connor’s oldest daughter started college.  My daughter started graduate school and works as a graduate assistant advising art education students. My son is a candidate for admission to the Academy at West Point and is hoping to be a part of the 2013 freshman class.

We heard from Tory Ertman Kane. She was working as a RN in New York until her husband was transferred to Shanghai, China. Her oldest son is in college in the U.S. Her youngest son will attend college in the U.S. extending his studies in China an additional year. Her daughter is entering the 10th grade at an international school. She graciously offered to host any visitors or provide any travel tips to the area. Tory can be reached at +18452336535 or [email protected]

We would love to hear about your lives, your jobs, kids, families. Be well.

She moved to North Carolina to open a branch of the non-profit she founded 16 years ago, Hope Homes. The nonprofit offers recovery residences in Atlanta, Charlotte, NC, and Greenville, SC. Beth keeps up with Kelly Broughal, Debbie Martinsen Odorizzi and Wendy DeWitt Hubbard. She will be traveling north this summer and hopes to reconnect with Jill Gates Robina.

Andria Obermayer Hanley has lived in Miami since 1992 with her husband and daugh-ters, ages 15 and 12. She is executive director of the Coral Gables Community Founda-tion. Her undergraduate stud¬ies in Public Administration have related to all the profes-sional and volunteer positions she has held since college. She received a master’s degree from the University of Miami and worked in admissions there for 10 years. She is a past president of the Junior League of Miami. Andria runs marathons and said that New York last year was amazing!

Phoebe Parker Ostergren has lived in Connecticut since we graduated. She has been married for 19 years and has two girls, ages 10 and 12. She was home full time until her youngest began school in 2008. She then returned to part time work as a pre-school teacher. After teaching pre-school for two years, she earned her child development associate credentials. This June, she finished her fourth year of teaching.

Hope Lewis Mikat lives in Winston Salem, NC with her husband of 20 years, who is a bee keeper, gardener and martial artist but makes a living as a physician assistant. They have two children, ages 13 and 10, one dog and two miniature horses. Her niece recently graduated with her nursing degree from Russell Sage. She is in contact with her roommate Regina Williams Canzeri.

She also did volunteer work with Parsons Child and Family and taught health at local schools. She is a potter who has had two shows a year for many years. She just turned 70, and is involved with three grandchildren. Bonnie’s daughter Kristen Foster Hanlon also graduated from Sage.

Karen Wheat Smith has her own physical therapy practice near Syracuse. She is married and has two boys, ages 13 and 10.

Wendy M. DeWitt Hubbard graduated from nursing school last spring. She has worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for 23 years, now as an RN on the Hematology/Oncology unit. Wendy wrote, “Changing professions to nursing was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Returning to school for two years wasn’t easy since I worked while going to school but now that it’s behind me, I’m loving it.” Her daughter just gradu¬ated from college, and her son finished his sophomore year in college. He is an accomplished singer/songwriter and has opened for blues singer Robert Cray. Wendy has three of the 48 4000-foot peaks left to climb in New Hampshire.

Kathleen Barr Ash lives in Duanesburg, NY with her husband and their three children. She works at Bassett Medical Center as a perinatal clinical nurse specialist. Kathleen gets to the theatre productions at Sage occasionally.

Rebecca Gordon Bloom is getting used to the Florida humidity and living in Orlando again. She works with the Blue Man Group at Universal Studios and gets to take her son to the theme park. Laura Perun Pederson and her family paid a visit while on vacation in Florida. Kristen Brooks also saw Becca for a few days with her family.

Wendi Gordon Cottey has been married to her husband, an RPI grad, for 24 years and they have three boys, ages 23, 21 and 20. They’ve lived in Allen, TX for 15 years. In 2009 she won the fight against breast cancer and is active in 5-K and 10-K runs to raise money to find a cure. Wendi walked the three-day Race for the Cure (60 miles) last November in Dallas. Adopted at birth, in 2010 Wendi found her birth families. She shares, “I always wanted to know my roots and it closed a hole that I had inside me.In fact my half-brother moved in with us nine months ago. We are like twins and only 21 months apart.” Wendi keeps in touch with Susan VanWagenen and Laura Kimple ’87 and reunited with Laura Peron and Marcia Insley ’87 on Facebook.

Randi Bornstein DaPonte has worked on the mother/baby unit at Stony Brook University Medical Center since 1989. She married her high school sweetheart in 1990. They dated while she was at Sage and he came to all the formals. They have a house in Coram on Long Island near where they grew up and have three sons, ages 13, 16 and 18. Randi is the Boy Scout Troop 74 committee chair and has been involved in Scouts since 2005. Her professional achievements include becoming a certified lactation consultant in 2001; became certified in maternal newborn nursing in 2011; and serving as co-chair of the nursing informatics committee.

Lori O’Brien Stern will see Jane Taubner Barney this summer. Jane is going to Colorado since Lori went to Massachusetts last summer. Lori’s oldest daughter had a successful first year at college and her 16-year-old daughter earned her second state championship marching band title playing tenor sax. Lori will start her 16th school year at Bristol Elementary where she is a reading interventionist.

Their families are great friends and Ellen’s daughter invited Kathy’s oldest son to her prom. Andrea Keig Rochford was up to visit last summer and they enjoyed going to dinner with the husbands and touring Troy.

Elaine Reffner Teeters lives in Stamford, CT with her husband and three children. Her oldest son finished his freshman year in college and her daughter is starting to look at colleges, including RSC. She is interested in physical therapy. Her daughter is a soccer player and loved the sports program at Sage along with everything else. Her youngest, now 13, was adopted from China and is busy with school and sports. Elaine is still in the mortgage business which is busier than ever.

Simone Awang recently started a new job with the government where she ran into Laura Osterhaut. Simone is enjoying her house in Woodbridge with her two sons.

I, Ann McDonald, was able to get together with Jill King Asher over the summer. She is doing well and is still doing her masters swim team. She vacationed with her family in Yellowstone this summer. I also heard from Tricia Toomey. She sent news from a vacation in Nova Scotia, Canada. She biked and camped along the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island.

On a sadder note, Maria Biernacki-Halse and I were informed by the college of the passing of Michelle Moore Christopherson, on June 26.

If you haven’t already, please join the class Facebook page, “Russell Sage College – Class of 1990”!  It is great hearing from everyone so please drop us a line!

Class_of_99.jpgI, Amy Carlotto Zuckett have been running! I completed the Color Me Rad (see photo at left) and Pittsburgh Steelers/Gatorade 5Ks. Two races in eight days, not bad for a beginner! I finished the Steelers race in 28:30 and came in 49th out of 190 in my age division. Not bad for my first timed race and training for about 5 weeks. I still don’t love running, but I love when it’s over and I love how my calves look! I plan to complete a race a month through December and then will continue to train for the Pittsburgh half marathon.
