The Art of Siona Benjamin
August 22 – October 9, 2016
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 8, lecture at 5:30 pm, reception at 6:30 pm
Siona Benjamin is a painter originally from Bombay, now living in the US. Her multimedia work reflects her background as a Jewish Indian woman raised in a predominantly Hindu and Muslim India and schooled in Catholic and Zoroastrian schools. Inspired by both Indian miniatures and Sephardic icons, she combines the imagery of her past with the role she plays in America today, making a mosaic that includes cultural, religious and feminist narratives.
